Moses Kennedy Jr.

Moses Kennedy Jr., 78, passed peacefully into rest on April 12, 2026, at High Point Medical Center, trading his earthly home for a heavenly one. Born January 3, 1948, in Rimini, South Carolina, to the late Moses and Aletha Kennedy, Moses was shaped early by faith, family, and a quiet, steady strength. To his brothers and sisters, he was affectionately known as “Bug,” “Bubba,” and “Pup,” names that stayed with him through the years and reflected the deep love they shared. He graduated from Manchester High School in 1966 and later made his home in Thomasville, North Carolina, where he built a life defined by dependability, devotion, and care. Moses was a proud and faithful member of Union Baptist Church in Thomasville, where he once sang with the Male Choir and remained active in the Silver Saints Ministry. Church was more than a place he attended, it was a part of who he was, and it showed in the way he lived and the love he shared with others. He found joy in life’s simple pleasures, casting a fishing line into the water, spending Friday nights cheering on the Thomasville Bulldogs, and watching the Carolina Tarheels, Panthers and NY Jets do their best. He also enjoyed watching American Pickers and Moonshiners, often with the quiet focus of someone who seemed to know just a little more than he let on, and those who loved him would not have been surprised if he did. Moses had a way of showing love that was steady and sure. He did not have to say much for you to feel it. He was dependable, protective, and always present. To his grandchildren, especially those he helped raise, he was a guiding light, a steady hand, and a source of comfort that never wavered. He also found joy in the companionship of his grand dogs, Kasper, Sasha, and Lily, often calling them his “little fellas,” who brought an extra smile to his days. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Eva Hines Kennedy; one child, Ermine Hines; his siblings, Richard James, Esther McCray, Roosevelt Benjamin, and Frankie Lee Kennedy; and his brother-in-law, Robert Lee Canty. Moses leaves to cherish his memory his children: Michelle Henderson (Dion), Gloria Walker, Anetta Hines, and Norman Hines (Teresa); his siblings: Jonathan Benjamin (Diane), Camilla Canty, and Dessie McBride (Henry); his sister-in-law, Thelma Bosier; his brother-in-law, Wyatt Hines; and his grandchildren, Kitwana Hines and Latoya Byrd (Brandon), whom he lovingly reared. He is also survived by a host of grand-children, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends, including Marlon Clay. Moses Kennedy Jr. was the kind of man who made you feel like everything was going to be alright just by being in the room. Though he is no longer physically present, the love, strength, and comfort he gave so freely will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
