Wanda Robinette (Leonard) Merrill

Wanda Robinette Leonard Merrill, 74, of Thomasville went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, July 1, 2024 at Piedmont Crossing. Wanda was born October 16, 1949 in Baltimore County, Maryland to the late Robert Leonard and Pauline Cranford Leonard. She was a lifetime member of Thomasville Church of God. She loved the Lord dearly and enjoyed serving as a Sunday school teacher, and received the lifetime achievement award for her years of service. Wanda worked many years for Maro Hosiery in the payroll department. She also worked for Thomasville Medical Associates, then thoroughly enjoyed volunteering at Novant Health Thomasville Medical Center. Wanda enjoyed traveling, whether it be to the North Carolina Mountains or Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, many precious memories were made with her family at those places. She always thoroughly enjoyed sleepovers with her granddaughters. Her greatest joy in life was the time she spent with her family and taking care of them. They were the light of her life; she absolutely loved hosting Sunday lunches and even welcomed their friends into her home as well. She was a loving and faithful mother, grandmother, sister and friend; she will be missed by all. Along with her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Gary Don Merrill, whom she married on June 30, 1969; her two brothers, Preston Moyer Leonard and Tony Ray Leonard. Surviving is her daughter, Vanessa Jackson and husband Bryan of Thomasville; her son, Rodney Merrill and wife Mandy of Lexington; three sisters, Phyllis Schreck, Jodi Newell and husband David, Lisa Simerson and husband Keith; four grandchildren, Lauren Olshinski and husband Sam, Jocelynn Irvine and husband Cody, Lindsay Watts and husband Tyler, and Rylee Merrill, three great-grandchildren, Lydia Brooke Olshinski, Henry Matthew Olshinski, Arizona Reid Watts. She also leaves behind many beloved nieces and nephews, along with her best friends, Margaret Hepler, Barbara Hampton, Linda Barnett A funeral service will be held Saturday, July 6, 2024 at 2:00 PM at Thomasville Church of God with her son, Rev. Rodney Merrill officiating along with Rev. Alan Greene. Interment will follow at Holly Hill Memorial Park Cemetery in Thomasville. The family will receive friends on Friday, July 5, 2024 from 6:00 PM-8:00PM at J.C. Green and Sons Funeral Home in Thomasville.
