Roxie Carolyn (Jurney) Goins

Roxie Carolyn Jurney Goins, 88, a resident of Brookdale Memory Care in Greensboro, graduated to glory on Saturday, August 31, 2024. She was born in Yadkin County on October 18, 1935 to the late Dell Crater Jurney and David Harold Jurney. As a toddler, Theodore Dillon Safley became Roxie's step-father and raised her as his own. Roxie was born into a hard-working farming family and she helped with the tobacco-curing at a young age. She found love early, when she met Andrew Luther Goins, Jr. and they married in SC on March 5, 1950, where strong-headed teens could go and make such commitments, as husband and wife. Several kids followed quickly and many family vacations were taken, where they enjoyed spending time together and made many wonderful memories. Roxie was a charter member of Cedar Lodge Baptist Church in Thomasville, NC, where she faithfully served as church treasurer for 25 years. She was an employee of Kayby Hosiery for 30 years, later moving to Thomasville Furniture and eventually joined her husband in Carolina Beach/Wilmington area, where she found her true calling as a nanny. Roxie served a number of families, who welcomed her into their homes, with every confidence that their child/children would be safe, loved and well cared for by "Mamaw". Many of those relationships lasted a lifetime. She loved spending time with her family and was always heavily involved with the grandkids and great grandkids sports and activities. While Roxie was a resident of Brookdale Memory Care, the caring staff loved interacting with her, enjoying her quick wit, her smile and her spunk. She in turn, relished how they spoiled her daily with some of her favorite dishes. Roxie was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 45 years; one son, Terry Glenn Goins; one grandson, Brooks Michael Everhart; two sisters, Mary Ruth (Claude) Byerly and Barbara (Noah) Muncus. Roxie is survived by her children, Deborah (Larry) Graham of Myrtle Beach, Danny Goins of Thomasville, Andrew Luther (Patricia) Goins III of Ocean Isle, Sherry (Terry) Everhart of Myrtle Beach; nine grandchildren, Amy (Brian) Eads of High Point, Andrew (Wendy) Graham of Tampa, Brad (Olivia) Goins of High Point, Randy (Danielle) Graham of Mocksville, Teresa (David) Owens of Tyro, Jessica (Jay) Payne of Thomasville, Darren Goins of Edgewood, NM, Andrew Goins IV and friend Sam (who Roxie especially loved) of Hawaii, Zachary (Rebecca) Goins of Charlotte; fourteen great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; a favorite niece, Robin Muncus of Jonesville, who Roxie always loved as her own. Roxie will be dearly missed by everyone who knew her. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, September 5, 2024 at 2:00 PM at J.C. Green and Sons Funeral Home Chapel in Thomasville, with Rev. Steve Jarvis and Rev. N.J. Rich officiating. An entombment will be held immediately following the service at Holly Hill Memorial Park Cemetery in Thomasville. The family will greet friends beginning at 1:00 PM prior to the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to either Cedar Lodge Baptist Church 1305 Cedar Drive, Thomasville, NC 27360 or Brookdale Memory Care 4400 Lawndale Drive, Greensboro, NC 27455. Our family grieves the loss of Roxie, but we rejoice in God's promise, that she now sees and thinks clearly, doesn't need a walker or wheelchair and will one day welcome us into her new home. We know it is much brighter up there Mamaw!
