Linda (Smith) Wells

Ms. Linda Wells, age 79, passed away peacefully, on July 20th, 2024. Linda was born May 29, 1945, a daughter of the late Alliene Pierce Smith and Charles Joseph Smith, in Thomasville, NC. Linda grew up in Thomasville, which she said exemplified the saying, “It takes a village to raise a child”. Her memories of growing up in Thomasville were walking to and from school with the neighborhood kids. In addition to spending time with neighbors, she and her family and many of their neighbors attended the First Baptist Church, where she enjoyed many activities that were generously provided. These times and friends were some of her fondest memories. After graduating from high school in 1963, she attended the University of South Carolina in Columbia, SC where she received her BA in Business Education in 1967. She then started her career teaching business courses in high school. Soon after, she obtained a business licenses in four lines of insurance and spent many years as an insurance agent. Later she owned and operated a company, “Magnolia and Moss” in High Point, that prepared and sold gift baskets. She loved gardening, which nourished her heart. In caring for her plants and being alone with God and nature, she found comfort and peace. One of her favorite hymns was “I Come to the Garden Alone.” She felt blessed with a wonderful family and devoted friends. However, the most important thing in her life were her children and grandchildren; she cherished her time she spent with them and is happy that part of her will live on in them. She is survived by two children, her son Todd Wells of Apex, NC, and her daughter Dawn Zheng of Durham, NC; three grandchildren, Emma Wells, Adam Wells, and Bridgett Zheng; her sister, Jean S. Haigler, her brother-in-law, Henry Haigler, her nephew, H. James Haigler, Jr., her niece, Elizabeth (Haigler) Sodano, her great nephew, and two great nieces. A memorial committal service will be held Saturday, August 10, 2024 at 12:00 pm at Holly Hill Memorial Park Cemetery in Thomasville with Rev. David Emery officiating. The family will greet friends prior to the service at the J.C. Green and Sons Funeral Home in Thomasville from 10:30 to 11:30 am.
