Linda Darlene (Pemberton) Allen

Mrs. Linda Darlene (Pemberton) Allen aka Nana passed away on August 14th, 2024 surrounded by her loving family. Linda was born in Portsmouth, Virginia on September 15th, 1945 to the late Raymond Pemberton and Leona Alexander. She was the first of seven children within the blended family. Linda attended Woodrow Wilson High School in Portsmouth, Virginia, where she graduated in 1964. This is where she met her future husband and love of her life, Norman, when he asked to borrow a textbook in 1960 - classic pickup line in those days! Her parents, along with her stepmother, Becky and two siblings have preceded her in death - her sister, Vicki and brother, Donald. Linda retired after 13 years working for Steven D. Bell in Greensboro, NC as a bookkeeper. She attended Calvary Church in Greensboro, North Carolina until health reasons kept her at home. Even though she was unable to attend in person, her heart was always close with God. Linda loved spending time with her family, going to the beach, making crafts for loved ones, and most of all, celebrating Jesus’ birthday on Christmas Day. She enjoyed watching golf, cooking shows, and always felt passionate about our country with a patriotic heart. Linda is survived by her husband, Norman Shelton Allen Senior of Thomasville, NC. Their 56th wedding anniversary would have been this Saturday, August 24, 2024. Also surviving are her three children; daughter, Chandra Noel and husband Tod Lehner of Myrtle Beach, SC; daughter, Holly Evonne and husband Shawn Denty of Longmont, CO; and son, Norman Shelton and wife Ashley Allen of Summerfield, NC. Other surviving family members include sister Susie, brothers Gene, Johnny Ray, & Wade Ray, sisters-in-law Mary Anne, Brenda, Lannie, and Linda and brother- in-law Dave. Her beloved grandchildren Josh (with wife Brianna), Luna, Lilly, Phoebe, Layla, Jax, & Waylon. Heather & Michael. Cherished great grandchildren include Ryker Baylon & Myla Cove. Proverbs 15:1-7 Philippians 4:7 Mom loved her crafts! Heaven knows we are knee deep in crafts right now! My brother, Norm, just found her latest, possibly the last craft she was working on before her passing. It was a quote, printed over and over on paper. Maybe a copy for each of us, letting us know she knew this day was coming. It read: Perhaps they are not stars, But rather openings in Heaven where our love ones look down And shine on us to let us know they are Happy. We miss you mom! We love you more than you will ever know! We can’t wait to see your star shine bright tonight! An immediate burial will take place at Holly Hill Memorial Park Cemetery in Thomasville, NC. A formal Celebration of Life is planned for late November / early December. More information will be forthcoming from the family soon.
